2016 Scouter of the Year

Each year Wagon Wheel District awards a Scouter of the Year award.

  • She has been an active Committee member from when her son transferred into the Troop. In the fall of 2010, when the treasurer left during the middle of the committee meeting and stated he was no longer going to be treasurer, she stepped right up to the job.

  • She has always been there with whatever the Scoutmaster or Committee Chair needs. She is always doing more above and beyond the duties of treasurer.  Assisting with camp registrations; shopping for family campouts, troop annual wimp-in, pancake feed, etc.

  • Mrs. Harrison has also gone to Camp Cedars helping to ensure the adult ratio is maintained at the campsite so the other adults can attend the OA night events.  Mrs. Harrison is more than a Committee member; she is a registered Scouter who will do anything needed to ensure a safe, fun program for the Scouts.

Congratulations to Mrs. Harrison for being awarded Wagon Wheel District Scoutmaster of the Year.

Troop 467 Extra Miler 2016

These individuals consistently stand out in everything they set out do to.  They may be a registered unit member, a parent of a youth member or an individual who enjoys working with boys.  Their personal sacrifice, devotion, and loyalty is, without a doubt, outstanding.  Congratulations to Mr. Grenon, and Mrs. Edwards for being awarded the Extra Miler Award.

2015 District Award of Merit

The District Award of Merit is a council award that is awarded to volunteer scouters who are nominated for the award and on recommendation of the district who render outstanding service to youth at the district level.  It is the highest award given on the district level recognizing leadership and service in the local scouting program.

  • The last person we will honor this evening is an Eagle Scout.  He is registered as a member of the committee with a local troop.  He is never home because he usually is running a shoot sports event for socuts. -- excerpt from the 2016 District Dinner script.

Troop 467 Extra Miler 2015

These individuals consistently stand out in everything they set out do to.  They may be a registered unit member, a parent of a youth member or an individual who enjoys working with boys.  Their personal sacrifice, devotion, and loyalty is, without a doubt, outstanding.  Congratulations to Mrs. Harrison, Mr. Grenon, and Mrs. Edwards for being awarded the Extra Miler Award.

2014 District Award of Merit

The District Award of Merit is a council award that is awarded to volunteer scouters who are nominated for the award and on recommendation of the district who render outstanding service to youth at the district level.  It is the highest award given on the district level recognizing leadership and service in the local scouting program.

  • The third and newest Award of Merit recipient earned First Class Scout award as a Girl Scout which was the highest award at that time in the organization and then the Girl Scout Gold Award. She has been a registered leader in the Wagon Wheel district since 2007 and has held leadership positions in the pack, troop, and district levels currently serving as an Assistant District Commissioner, to many she is our district popcorn kernel.  Additionally, she has assisted two years as a presenter for the Investment in Character Campaign. -- excerpt from the 2015 District Dinner script.

Wagon Wheel District Extra Miler 2014

Aaron received an Extra Miler Award from the Wagon Wheel District for serving on the District Popcorn Team and going above and beyond his duties.  During the training of 42 Unit Popcorn Kernels, Aaron was in charge of sorting and distributing paperwork and sample popcorn packets for all the units to receive once they have completed their training.  He had everything under control and oversaw the workload of two adult and two youth volunteers assisting him.  Congratulations to Aaron for being awarded the Extra Miler Award.

 

2013 Scoutmaster of the Year

Each year Wagon Wheel District awards a Scoutmaster of the Year award.

  • He spends a lot of time with the troop.  At our Scoutmaster Conferences, he asks how our lives are doing beyong our troop, our whole liives.  After we are awardeded our ranks during COH, he always reminders us to hug our Moms and thank our Dads.  He encourages us to work on our Merit Badges.  He is a great Scoutmaster for all.  He treats everyone fair.  He is usually at our campouts and teaches the attendees Scout skills.  He always helps with any questions we have about our Scout book and our Scout lives.  He is always there for us.  He knows when we need him. -- by a First Class Scout

  • He should be awarded Scoutmaster of the Year for two reasons.  One, because he is brightest leader that I know, and the troop has known.  He has brought a small two patrol troop into a five patrol troop powerhouse.  These are a few reasons why he should be called Scoutmaster of the Year. -- by an entire Patrol

  • He is a dedicated volunteer for Boy Scouts and is a passion of his to help grow these boys into fine young men and citizens.  He encouages these boys to do their best not only in their Scouting endeavors but in all areas of life.  He recognizes these boys when they do well in school, encourages to keep up the good job at church, and asks about their sports events.  He always stresses at his meetings and reminds his Scouts that Family, Church, and School all come before scouts; he doesn't want to them fretting over what do to.  There are times when they need to skip Scouts due to band concerts, Sunday school programs, Choir Concerts; he encourges them going and at the next meeting he asks them about the eventHe is always willing to answer any questions we have as parents, to help us understand.  -- excerpt from a Committee Member.

2013 Outing in Scouting

New this year, Wagon Wheel District awarded a "Outing in Scouting" award.

  • He is a good leader.  He is a good teacher.  He teaches from experience.  He always knows what is happening in the troop so he can help the scouts.  He knows what is happening in our lives so he can help us.  He understands when we need to miss Scouts due to our sporting events.  He is nice.  He is a teacher for a bunch of Merit Badges, so we can always look to him for help.  If someone needs a Merit Badge counselor, they can go to him. -- by a First Class Scout

  • He is understanding, willing to listen to each boy, never gets angry, represents our troop in a positive way throughout the community, and takes time out of his life to support the troop. -- by a Life Scout.

  • He has been a big assest to new parents helping them to adjust from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts answering their many questions.  He will do anything that is needed to help the Troop as a whole and any Scout to succeed.  He is an asset to the District; he has obtained the training and certification needed to a NRA range officer so those events can be held at Camporees.  He is a Merit Badge Counselor and has a good rapport with the Scouts and makes them feel very welcomed and comfortable when coming to discuss their requirements with them.  He volunteers within his community. -- excerpt from a Committee Member.

2012 Assistant Scoutmaster of the Year

Each year Wagon Wheel District awards an Assistant Scoutmaster of the Year award.

  • Mr. Yost teaches from experience.  When he is instructing us in doing items, he uses the EDGE method.  Mr. Yost is always there when I need him.  Mr. Yost treats me with respect.  He cares of all his scouts. -- by a Second Class Scout

  • HJohn Yosts cares for each of those Scouts in his patrol as if they were his own son.  He listens to them intently; he asks them questions to help them find their own answers, resolutions.  He works wells with those boys.  John is a good mentor and enabler for his patrol members. Is there to encourage them during the swim test, to encourage and instruct them while working on the Fire'm Chit.  John takes his role as Assistant Scoutmaster very seriously.  Watching the safety of the Scouts and Scouters during campouts and Troop activities.  The education of Scouts, Scouters, and parents.  He doesn't treat the Scouts as children, he respects them as young men, helping to develop them into fine citizens.  He volunteers within his children's school and the community. -- excerpt from a Committee Member.
