FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions:

What are some of the year-round activities you hold?

One usual thing we do is go to camporees. There are three different camporees, one in the spring, fall, and winter. The reason we don't do one in summer is because we go to Summer Camp. Summer camp is a week long camp that Boy Scouts can earn merit badges. The recent summer camps we have been to is Camp Ceaders and Lewis and Clark. Lewis and Clark is in South Dakota. Every February we have a Wimp-In. That is were we bring games and play them and camp inside and the adults cook the food and scouts can work on requirements if desired.

I keep hearing about this permission slip I have to sign. What's up with that?

I'm confused. The boys are all divided up and I can't figure out how it works. What's up?

The permission slip is for camping. According to the new troop policy, a parent or guardian must sign the permission slip so the scout can go. This prevents any headaches about going or not going. The permission slip is e-mailed to the parents/guardians monthly, or a blank copy can be found on the Resources page.

You're not the first to have this question.  Troops divide the scouts into patrols, small units of boys that work together and roughly the same age. This makes sorting the troop activities easier. The boys on campouts are self-responsible, setting up tents, cooking, cleaning, and activities. They work on activities and advancement with others. They are also responsible for menu planning, shopping, and keeping their parents informed. Each patrol is lead by a Patrol Leader, a boy who leads his fellow scouts in his patrol. The Senior Patrol Leader, works with all of the patrols (i.e. the entire troop) and is the person all Patrol Leaders or boys can look to for help. Assistant Patrol Leaders, and the Assistant Senior Patrol Leaders fill in the position of the Patrol or Senior Patrol Leader if he is not present. All patrol leaders and the Scribe meet once a month for meeting about the future of the troop and plan events.

My boy is in the troop, but I want to help the troop too. How can I do this?

Contact Us:

The troop is boy-lead; adult adminstered. Talk to Mr. Heller, Troop Committee Chair, about joining the Troop Committee. The Troop Committee has many responsibilities to the troop and help move it along like a well-oiled machine! Another thing you can do is come to the campouts to help supervise and support the scouts. Adults are needed for safety, transportation, and keeping track of records and advancement. All adults are welcome on campouts!
